David Bateman’s wife manages an apartment complex near BYU, and she often complained about the inefficiencies and messy paperwork. So, Bateman listened to his wife and with the help of friends created a computer program that allows apartment tenants to pay rent, request repairs, and take care of many other needs all online. BYU entered Bateman’s idea into a National entrepreneurial contest, and it won.
“We just thought it was an honor to be able to participate in the competition, so it was just mind boggling for us” (David Bateman).
Bateman beat out teams of masters students from schools like Harvard and Stanford and has received $100,000 in prize money from awards. So, what’s one thing he’s learned?
“You should always listen to your wife” (David Bateman).
