BECU and CheckFree Renew Electronic Billing and Payment Relationship:
Members Who Receive and Pay Bills Online Experience Increased Convenience, Security and Control Over Personal Finances --
ATLANTA and SEATTLE, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CheckFree Corporation today announced a multi-year contract extension with BECU, the largest credit union in Washington and one of the top 10 financial cooperatives in the country, to provide electronic billing and payment services to BECU`s members. BECU`s electronic billing and payment service is free for credit union members and has been made available through its technology relationship with CheckFree for the past eight years. The extension means that BECU members will continue to enjoy the same level of convenience, control and security when receiving and paying bills online.
BECU`s Bill Payment is an easy and secure way for members to manage and organize their finances, save time, and ensure on-time payments, which helps protect credit scores. A 2005 Identity Fraud Survey Report from Javelin Strategy & Research concludes that using online banking and bill payment services, and replacing paper bills with electronic bills and statements, is one of the best things consumers can do to protect themselves from identity fraud. CheckFree e-Bill(SM) offers a greater level of protection than paper bills, since they are secured at encrypted, password-secured
websites backed by a consumer`s financial institution of choice.
"Behind the scenes, CheckFree provides BECU members with a safe and easy way to manage their monthly bills with industry-leading technology and quality," said Gary Fee, Director of Product and Delivery Channel Management of BECU. "We are proud to collaborate with a company like CheckFree, who has a history of innovation and of working to deliver a high quality financial infrastructure to its partners and their customers."
Members using BECU`s free Bill Payment service can take advantage of numerous features and benefits including:
- Safe and reliable -- BECU Bill Payment is secure, backed by the highest level of encryption available. Additionally, unlike paper payments, the CheckFree Guarantee protects credit union members who pay their bills electronically against late fees resulting from processing delays, as well as liability for unauthorized transactions.
- Increased financial control -- Members can schedule automatic payments of recurring bills, such as rent, mortgage or car loans, to be made on the same date each month. When adding electronic billers, members can instruct BECU to pay a bill automatically as long as the amount due is below a set dollar amount and arrange for bill reminders via e-mail.
Scheduling payments helps consumers maximize their cash flow:
- Improved organization -- By receiving e-Bills instead of paper bills, members can eliminate clutter and keep records organized. e-Bills contain the same information as paper bills and can be printed easily if needed. In addition, a consumer`s bill payment history is stored online for six months and is available offline for up to seven years.
BECU members can receive e-Bills from a variety of national and regional companies. By using a consolidated site, such as BECU Bill Payment, members are able to manage and organize more of their finances in one streamlined place. According to a March 2005 survey by The Marketing Workshop, Inc. and Harris Interactive, sponsored by CheckFree, consumers who view and pay bills at a consolidated site benefit from reminders that help them protect their credit scores by paying on time, and report that the service saves them time and improves organization.
"By offering Bill Payment free-of-charge, BECU demonstrates its dedication to providing its members with access to the tools that will help them take control of and maximize their finances," said Jeff Weikert, senior vice president and consumer service provider channel executive at CheckFree. "CheckFree shares in that commitment and looks forward to continuing this long-standing relationship with BECU and its members."
