The business law firm of Stoel Rives LLP and Wasatch Digital iQ magazine named 18 Utah finalists and their high-tech inventions for its annual Utah Innovation awards.

Utah County finalists include Property Solutions International Inc., a Provo-based developer of Web-based property management software for multi-family apartment housing projects. Property Solutions' software, Resident Works, reduces time spent processing applications by potential residents, rental payments and maintenance requests.

Six winners -- one each from six categories that include biotechnology; chemicals, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals; medical devices; computer software and Web services; electrical devices; and mechanical devices -- will be announced at an awards luncheon on May 20 at the University of Utah's Olpin Union Ballroom.

In the biotechnology category, finalists include BioMicro Systems Inc., Idaho Technology Inc. and University of Utah. In the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals category are Myriad Genetics Inc., NPS Pharmaceuticals, Sequoia Pacific Research Co. LLC.

Finalists in the medical devices category include ARUP Laboratories, MedQuest Products Inc. and Zars Inc. In computer software and Web services, finalists include Engage ThoughtWare LLC, Forum Systems and Property Solutions International Inc.

Finalists in electrical devices include Brigham Young University, Broadcast International and Star Bridge Systems Inc. In mechanical devices, finalists include Ceramatec Inc., Trebor and the University of Utah.
